Web relaunch of the SEA ICE PORTAL

Key contribution to good science communication

Our planet is undergoing profound climate change. The polar regions and oceans play a central role in this. Researching the sea ice of the Arctic and Antarctic and shedding light on its important role in the Earth system is therefore a major scientific task.
The aim of the SEA ICE PORTAL is to provide information on the results of scientific research into sea ice development and to allow the interested public to participate in the findings.
Tailoring the portal to the target group was therefore the focus of the conceptual work. The structure, design and functions were planned and revised in close collaboration with stakeholders.
The portal was implemented in TYPO3.
There is no question that sea ice is a topical issue. It is constantly increasing, because the sea ice is melting faster than expected. To help visualize this development, wiminno is currently developing animations on sea ice concentration. Users can select individual time periods. The interactive data visualization tool (TYPO3-CE) will be available at the beginning of 2024.
